The Golden Plains Ag Network.........
The Golden Plains Ag
Network
was formed in July of 2007, and went on
the air with the
first
broadcasts August 3rd of 2007. The network continues to be a
cutting edge source of information to fit rural lifestyles, in the most
prominent grain and beef producing area. The Golden Plains Ag Network,
was the first network to offer a 60 second market update to fit the
music intense FM affiliates. It was also the first network to give the
use of a brand new combine, header, and grain trailer to one of it’s
listeners. Golden Plains Ag Network was also the first network to
launch a 2 hour syndicated mid-day farm show that can be heard in
6 states, and the only network that has a partnership with a
syndicated morning television show, and the nations largest farm
print publication. The most unique aspect of the Golden Plains Ag
Network that set’s it apart from every other network, is the fact that
it originates it’s programming from the rural part of the farming and
ranching areas, instead of being based in a large, non-ag/non-rural
metro area. Therefore, capturing and holding the respect
of the audience and advertisers, by being in the epicenter of where the
actual production is taking place.
John
Jenkinson
was raised on a 4000+ acre irrigated/dryland grain farm
in Southwest Kansas. After college, he returned to the family farm
until 1992. With a strong background in markets, and the understanding
of the rural and agriculture lifestyle, John was invited to audition at
a large station with a strong rural heritage. His broadcast career has
familiar call letters with deep and rich ag roots, like KSIR, KMZU, KFEQ,
and WIBW. He also has extensive experience in a network setting, having
worked with 3 very well known ag networks, and 1 television giant with a
legendary noon ag show in the Capitol of Kansas. Following the creation
of Rocking M Radio, John was approached about the opportunity to form a
new network. He accepted, and the Golden Plains Ag Network was born out
of John’s wide experiences of both radio and television. He and his
wife Jana (an elected official) make their home in Lakin Kansas and they
have 3 girls and one boy. A few of his hobbies include… flying
airplanes, riding motorcycles, and restoring antique farm machinery, but
his favorite, is helping his parents on the family farm. John currently
serves as South Region Vice President of the National Association of
Farm Broadcasters, the Kearny County Airport Advisory Board, and the
Planning and Zoning Commission Board for Kearny County.
Peggy
Sue Burdick
was born and raised in a small rural community in
Southwest Kansas,
where
she learned about morals, values, rural lifestyle living, and the
“Golden Rule”. Being from a dairy farm, Peggy understood what hard
work, long hours, and “going above and beyond” meant to herself, and to
others. After graduation, she attended Kansas State in Manhattan where
she would meet her husband Roger, also from a rural background. With a
hard work ethic, determination, and the honesty that rural life had
taught her, she then embarked on a radio marketing career that would
span 24+ years. Some of that experience came from being a Regional
Marketing Director for the largest radio chain in Kansas, where she
represented national and regional advertisers. Peggy holds memberships
in NAMA, RAB, and the KAB that illustrates her commitment to doing her
best for her “friends” as she calls them. She is very proud to
represent the fastest growing ag and rural lifestyle network in central
United States, and to this day, works as hard as her father and mother
taught her to, on that dairy farm. As part of the marketing team for
Rocking M Radio Inc., Peggy and her husband Roger will be attending
numerous agriculture trade shows. So if you're on the road headed to an
agriculture trade show be sure to look for Peggy and her husband Roger.
Bonnie Gobin
was born in Elkton Maryland. After her
birth, her parents moved to a farm in
the
famous Blue Ridge Mountains in Lansing North Carolina. They raised
Cotton, Tobacco, and Corn, and most of the labor was by hand, and the
entire family worked. They also kept a few head of cattle and hogs.
Later, her family moved to California where they had to overcome a huge
lifestyle change. The way they talked and dressed made them stand out
among the crowd. Bonnie graduated from high school in California, and
later, married her high school sweetheart. Her husbands family was from
Kansas, and his grandparents still farmed in Iuka. Bonnie, her husband,
and their children moved to Spearville in Western Kansas and started a
custom harvesting operation. They would start in far Southern Kansas at
the beginning of the season, and their travels took them all the way to
the Canadian border. Bonnie lost her husband, but continued to work for
a nonprofit community based organization for 15 years and served as a
board member for the United Way. For a change, she started working for
Golden Plains Ag Network, and her favorite part is the markets. Her
hobbies include fishing, camping, gardening, and dancing.
Dan Holiday
was
raised on a farm, east of El Dorado, Kansas. He was involved in the
Flinthills
4-H Club raising sheep and hogs that he sold at the county fair.
Throughout his childhood Dan built his own radio and weather station in
his bedroom and began practicing his passion for a career. While in high
school, Dan got his first job at KOYY Radio as an afternoon announcer.
Since that time, he has worked at several radio stations including
eleven years at KZSN-FM as mid-day on-air host and music director. In
2003, Dan and co-worker Brandon Ivey were presented the Kansas
Association of Broadcasters first place award for the audio production
of "Caught In The Path", a radio program dedicated to severe storm
safety. In 2004, Dan moved to Kansas City to join KFKF-FM as the
afternoon personality. In 2006, he earned certification as a Broadcast
Meteorologist through Mississippi State University. Dan is a member of
the National Weather Association and the American Meteorological
Society. When he isn't on the air or forecasting weather, Dan enjoys
watching NASCAR, college basketball and chasing tornadoes.

son Christopher Miller. Doris and Monte have
been
involved in the newspaper and broadcasting business in Kansas for over
43 years. Rocking M Radio is the largest single owner of radio stations
